After a pandemic hiatus in 2020, the board welcomed member-owners back to the Mohawk Community Resource Center in Blairsden on a snowy Sunday morning in late January for our bi-annual Breakfast with the Board event. Intrepid member-owners trekked through the snowfall and sat down for a delicious burrito breakfast catered by our friends at Quincy Provisions and listened to a presentation on Policy Governance, the governance model which the board transitioned to in 2022 with tremendous help from General Manager, Marcie Wilde. Board President, Gia Martynn and fellow board members explained the basics of Policy Governance, discussed why the decision to switch was made and shared their experience of its implementation. General Manager, Marcie Wilde, discussed what implementing has looked like and provided an overview of associated reports. Member-owners then asked questions of both staff and board and engaged in conversation about the co-op we all love while gathering over a shared meal.
While we certainly look forward to hosting more member events in the coming year, one of the best ways member-owners can engage in the cooperative principle of ‘Democratic Member Control’ is by voting in annual board elections. We have two candidates up for election for this election cycle, Clare Churchill and Ian Schrammel, who you can learn more about on our website or in-store. Ballots are also available both in-store and online and elections run through the month of March (ends March 31st). Vote today!
We are, Co-op Stronger Together!
