Have you ever considered becoming a member of the Feather River Food Co-op Board of Directors? The Board has seven members, a term is three years, and at least two positions are up for reelection annually. Being a Board member is both rewarding and challenging. As the Co-op grows as a business and seeks to support its members and communities in more ways, Board responsibilities have increased and the time commitment has become unmanageable for some who would like to serve.
Fortunately, there are less demanding ways for interested members to become involved with the Board. Of the five standing committees identified in the Co-op’s by-laws, only the Executive Committee must be composed entirely of Board members. The Board Development, Membership, and Policy Committees all welcome non-Board members, who can share their skills in helping FRFC to meet its goals. The just-enacted Legacy Board Member Policy now allows former Board members to be active, although non-voting, members of the Finance Committee, including access to sensitive information. It also allows for non-voting involvement with special committees, such as General Manager hiring, or mentoring new board members.
So, if you have the skills and the desire, but perhaps not a lot of available time, consider contacting a current Board member about how you can help.
