Equipment Upgrades In Quincy

Exciting News! – Update on our Grant Award

We are officially on our last phase of the large Healthy Refrigeration Grant we received at the end of last year for the Quincy location. If you recall, we were awarded $240,000 to install three brand new energy efficient refrigeration units. We have since installed a new deli grab-n-go case and a new produce case.

For the final phase, we plan to replace our aging walk-in units located in the back storage area of the store. These walk-in units were moved into our 269 Main St. location back in 2003, pre-owned. They have started to fail us at an increasing rate. We are extremely excited to have these replaced with brand new equipment.

Demolition will begin on Thursday, January 23rd, with an expectation that this will take roughly 4 days to complete. Removing these old units will not be for the faint of heart. We don’t know what we might find under or behind these units once removed. Our hope is that the floor is in excellent condition and there will be no repairs needed. We will only know this once the old units are removed.

What this means for you:

  • If we do find issues with the structure, we may have to replace some flooring, etc. This will cause noise disruption to the entire store.
  • This may also affect the ability of our kitchen to continue operating if demolition proves to kick up too much dust and other contaminants.
  • Additionally, we will be moving a large majority of our backstock out onto the sales floor in order to keep enough space in the back for the work to be done. We may temporarily close the salad bar and hot bar in order to use that corner of the store for storage. We are looking into this and will update you as soon as we decide what we will do.
  • We must pull our refrigerator trailer to the front of the store and park it there as we do during Thanksgiving. This will take up a prime parking space. We do apologize for this inconvenience and hope it’s only for a few days. The majority of the work will be done on the weekend in hope this will not impact the store too much.

What we will ask of you:

  • We are asking you to please be patient with us as we are working through this last phase of the project. We will be running around doing our best to keep the store stocked up, but we may run into issues with storage and stock. Our staff are not in control of the impact this project has on the store. We appreciate your kind words of encouragement and will not tolerate disruptive behavior toward staff.
  • Please seek out the General Manager if you have a major concern. Our staff on the floor are there to do the job of keeping your favorites on the shelf. If you have concerns that need to be addressed, please reach out to Marcie Wilde directly.
    • Marcie’s direct line – (530) 363-7650
    • Marcie’s direct email – Mwilde@featherriver.coop

After this project is complete, I look forward to sharing the cost savings we will have on our energy bills. I truly appreciate your patience and kind words through this process. It’s a big step forward for us to become more sustainable. Thank you for your continued support of the co-op.

Sincerely,

Marcie Wilde | General Manager
