Co-op Board Update

Meet Your Most Recent Newly Appointed Board Director, Melissa Lopez
February 23rd, 2022

By Gia Martynn, Board President and Melissa Lopez, Board Member

In June 2021, we lost Board Director Amy Napoleon.  Filling board vacancies when a board member vacates a seat in the middle of their term is a board responsibility that can be challenging.  It took the board three months to find a member-owner to fill this most recent vacancy.  In September, we appointed member-owner Melissa Lopez from Taylorsville.  Melissa is fairly new to Plumas County, having moved here in early 2020 from Monterey Bay.  She is passionate about local food and immediately joined the co-op when she arrived in Plumas County.  When asked if she would be interested in fulfilling a vacant term on the board, she expressed a strong interest and graciously accepted our appointment offer.  Melissa brings with her skills in non-profit program development and management in garden-to-table education, working with local food banks, and organizing sustainability awareness events and fundraisers.  She works in Chester as the Membership Director and Farmer’s Market Manager for the Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce.  Melissa has been a valuable and active board member since her appointment, and is running in the upcoming election to maintain her seat on the board.  If you happen to see her in the Co-op or around town be sure to give her a shout out.

The Co-op board meets the third Thursday of every month.  All members are welcome to join our meetings in person or virtually via Zoom.  To attend virtually you can register for the meeting link on the Co-op website at www.featherriver.coop/about-us/board-of-directors/.  Board meeting minutes and information can be found on the website, as well.
